Duncan Campbell Blue Jr. was born on June 3, 1925, in Greensboro, N.C., to Duncan Campbell and Mary Anne Monroe Blue. Before his birth, Duncan Blue Sr. worked as a clerk for the P. B. Comer auto repair garage in Greensboro. When he was two-years old, Duncan's family moved to the town of Lakeview in Moore County, N.C., where Duncan Blue Sr. operated a barbecue stand. At the time of his federal draft registration for World War II, Duncan Blue Jr. was working in Southern Pines, N.C. He graduated from Vass-Lakeview High School in 1942.
Blue Jr. served in the World War II in the U.S. Navy, reaching the rank of Seaman First Class during his military career. He was a Coxswain during the D-Day invasion at Normandy, driving troops up to the shore in a landing craft vehicle, personnel (LCVP). He served aboard the USS LST-359 when it was sunk by torpedo attack on the morning of December 20, 1944, by the German submarine U-870 in the eastern Atlantic, about 370 miles from Sao Miguel, Azores.
After the war, Duncan Blue Jr. married Cornelia N. Blue, and they moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina. After leaving the Navy, he worked for the U.S. Civil Service Commission as a master carpenter for at Pope Air Force in Fayetteville. Later, he became a supervisor carpenter on the base. Blue Jr. was a member of the Moore County (N.C.) Rescue Squad as a paramedic for many years. Duncan C. Blue Jr. died on December 28, 2012, and was buried in Lakeview Cemetary in Lakeview, N.C.
